Despite the large number of students reporting illness, few teachers have gotten sick. The new Florence Roche Elementary School, at 342 Main Street in Groton, Massachusetts, is a 109,855 square foot 2-story building east of the old Florence Roche Elementary School. The project includes demolition of the old Elementary School building, site improvements, and a new 400m running track adjacent to both the new Elementary School and the existing Middle School. This is an MSBA-supported project with a design enrollment of 645 students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, servicing the Town of Groton and the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District.

During the Feasibility Study, Studio G evaluated the potential of an addition/ renovation to the existing building verses new construction. A cost comparison of the two options made clear that new construction would be more economical. For various reasons, including the benefits of sharing resources with the Middle School and Twomey Youth Center, it was ultimately decided that FRES should remain located at the current Main Street campus location. Through multiple design iterations and testing of different areas on the campus for the proposed new elementary school, the ideal location was determined to be behind the existing FRES. The Student Progress Rating measures whether students at this school are making academic progress over time based on student growth data provided by the Department of Education. The school was deep cleaned, and the food, milk and water supply all checked, but nothing problematic was found, leading officials to believe this is some kind of virus.
